2010 Parent Letter

Posted Friday, February 19, 2010 by Trevor Thomas
Dear Parent or Guardian,

The 2010 Westfall High School Baseball Season is right around the corner.  Workouts begin on Monday, February 22rd for all athletes not involved in a varsity winter sport. Practice and selection of teams will begin the week of Monday, March 8th.
As we prepare for the upcoming season, it is crucial that your son is in attendance at all workouts and practices.  Due to the number of spring sports and with basketball still in tournaments, we will be practicing at different times at the beginning of our season.  We will either practice after school from 2:45-5:00 or from 5:00-7:30PM.  During the first week of workouts, I will ask all athletes to try out as a pitcher or a catcher, as the week continues some of the players will only workout for one hour; the other group will work out for two hours.  Again, please make sure your son has transportation as needed.  Do not be afraid to have him ask some of our upperclassmen who drive, they will be more than happy to give your son a ride to workouts.  Also, please do your best to pick up your athlete at the proper time after practice (behind the high school).  We as coaches ask that everyone is at practice at least 15 minutes before the start time; we will do our best to end practice no later than 5 minutes past the designated ending time.
All paperwork needs to be filled out, signed and turned back into me before the first workout on February 22rd. Physicals must be completed (first page of packet- signed by doctor) and turned in to me by the first day of practice (March 9th).  For those athletes who have played a sponsored Westfall High School sport this school year, most of this paperwork should be completed.  Physicals must cover a full year; questions of this coverage date should be directed to the athletic department. Physicals taken before last baseball season will not cover this 2010 season.  Your son should also have a  2010 JV and or Varsity  schedule, use this to help plan the upcoming spring season. Also the current practice schedule and game schedule is available online.
This academic grading period is crucial for your son’s spring eligibility.  Each athlete needs to pass 5 credits and follow both the OHSAA and Westfall academic policies.
Finally, transportation fees and athletic code of conduct packets must be completed forms, dates for these meetings will be posted and given to your son as they come available. We will also have clothing/hats that athletes will need to purchase this season. Fees will range between $65 and $50.  I will forward these costs to everyone soon.  This is somewhat similar to the spirit packs that players have purchased in the past.  We do not have the financial luxury to buy pullovers for all levels this year.  I will offer pullovers and sweats for an additional price for anyone that wants to order early in March.

Please follow the Mustangs and keep up to date with baseball information and history on our team website www.westfallbaseball.vnsports.com
I am extremely excited for upcoming season, have had a very special group of athletes who have made a great commitment to our pre-season weight lifting and workout program. We look forward to seeing those who have been in winter sports and to those who have yet to attend our sessions.  If we can get all of the “baseball players” in the school out this spring, we have a chance of having two very good and competitive teams.

In baseball,
